Riot introduces Ascendant, a fresh competitive rank in VALORANT.

New Ascendant Rank coming to VALORANT

Riot Games has announced the introduction of a new rank called Ascendant in the competitive game mode of VALORANT. This new rank will be positioned above Diamond and below Immortal, providing a better balance between the lower and higher ends of the ranking system. The Ascendant rank will be launched alongside the release of Episode Five, Act One on June 22.

Addressing rank distribution imbalance

Riot explained that they noticed an issue with the distribution of players in the lower ranks, particularly Bronze and Silver. They believed that many players in those ranks didn’t truly belong there. This large population in the lower ranks could eventually lead to an overpopulation of higher ranks like Platinum and Diamond. To maintain the prestige of these higher ranks, Riot decided to implement the Ascendant rank before the Immortal rank.

Balancing the player base

According to data provided by Esports Tales, the Silver rank has the highest population in the game, accounting for 28.1 percent of the player base. On the other hand, the highest rank, Radiant, only represents 0.03 percent of the player base. The introduction of the Ascendant rank aims to distribute players more evenly across the ranking system, with lower-ranked players gradually progressing towards the higher ranks.

Improved ranking system with Ascendant

The launch of the Ascendant rank will provide a better filtering system for players between the lower and higher ends of the ranking system. This update will help in maintaining the prestige of the higher ranks and ensuring a fair and balanced competitive experience for all players.
