CD Projekt Red Reveals Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Reach 13 Million Units, Accounting for Returns

CD Projekt Red’s Devastating Month Ends with Cyberpunk 2077 Selling 13 Million Copies

In the midst of a tumultuous month following the chaotic launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s newest title has still managed to achieve impressive sales figures. Despite the widespread glitches, bugs, and other issues, the game has become the fastest-selling PC game of all time, with a staggering 4.72 million copies sold on PC alone. When factoring in the eight million pre-orders across all platforms, the total number of copies sold reaches an impressive 13 million. This figure includes returns and refunds issued by digital storefronts and physical retailers.

Reassuring Investors of Success

CD Projekt Red’s management board made the decision to share these sales figures as a means to reassure investors that, despite the negative feedback, Cyberpunk 2077 remains a commercial success. Achieving 13 million units sold within just over a week solidifies the game’s place among the biggest launches in gaming history.

The Impact of Returns and Refunds

It’s important to note that the aforementioned sales numbers have been influenced by the high number of returns. Both Sony and Microsoft introduced special refund policies specifically for digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Sony even took the extraordinary step of removing the game entirely from the PlayStation Store due to the volume of complaints.

The Potential for Legal Action

CD Projekt as a whole may face legal action from investors. Mikołaj Orzechowski, an attorney and CDPR investor, suggested that the company could be accused of “misrepresentation in order to obtain financial benefits.” The outcome of this potential legal action and any improvements made to Cyberpunk 2077 will be disclosed in the near future.
