The Highly Anticipated First-Person Shooter: Valorant
Riot Games has finally unveiled the name of its long-awaited first-person shooter: Valorant.
Valorant is a free-to-play, character-based five-vs-five shooter that emphasizes skill, precision, and creativity. In each game, players will select a character, known as an agent, to play throughout the match. They will then partake in a best-of-24-rounds battle between attackers and defenders to claim supremacy.
Valorant places a strong emphasis on gunplay, making fights quick and deadly. Time-to-kill is extremely low, with most headshots resulting in instant kills and rifles taking three to four shots to eliminate opponents. Agent abilities are designed to complement players’ good aim and decision-making rather than dominate gameplay, creating unforeseen opportunities and supporting teammates.
To ensure a competitive experience, Riot has implemented dedicated 128-tick servers for all players and a global network of data centers, guaranteeing less than 35ms ping in major cities.
Riot has also introduced Vanguard, a constantly evolving cheat detection tool that swiftly bans cheaters and ends compromised games. With the additional anti-tamper system from League of Legends, Valorant players can rest assured that hacking will not be an issue. The game even features an in-engine fog-of-war that conceals player locations until a line of sight contact is achieved.
This marks Riot’s first foray outside of the League universe and represents their biggest endeavor in a new genre of video games. Valorant was revealed during League’s 10-year anniversary celebration stream last year and generated significant hype among fans.
