Riot Games has announced that it will be making significant improvements to the League of Legends client in order to enhance performance and usability. This comes after an update several years ago that did not show any notable improvements and, in some cases, made the game experience worse.

In a recent “Riot Pls” video, Joseph “New001” Tung, lead producer of League of Legends, stated that it is time for a client revamp as the existing client has taken too long to address the issues. He mentioned that the past few months have involved backend changes to identify the root causes of long loading times in Hextech Crafting and other aspects of the game.

The client’s software, Chromium, will also be updated to support newer versions since it was previously constrained by Riot’s support for Windows XP. With support for XP now deprecated, the update can proceed, resulting in improved loading times and overall performance.

Along with the backend overhaul, the frontend of the client will also receive enhancements. These include the addition of two-factor authentication and the option to stay signed in, ultimately improving the user experience. Another notable feature is the ability to patch the game in the background, eliminating the need to open the client separately for patches.

Riot has also streamlined the game patching process, reducing the average patch time from eight minutes to a mere 40 seconds. With the upcoming ability to patch even without having the client open, waiting for game updates to play with friends will soon become a thing of the past.
