Riot affirms that League’s ranked system remains unchanged to address smurfing.

Riot Games Corrects Misinformation About League of Legends Ranked Climb

Riot Games has clarified that the recent controversy surrounding the ranked climb in League of Legends has been misinterpreted. There were concerns that the climb had been adjusted to deter smurfing, but lead producer of gameplay Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and lead gameplay designer Mark “Scruffy” Yetter have stated that this is not the case. The matchmaking and climb in Season 10 should not be different from Season 9. Riot Games has also acknowledged that there are better ways to address the issue of smurfing without making the climb harder.

Player Frustrations and MMR Problems Persist

Despite Riot Games’ clarification, some players are still experiencing frustration with the ranking system. There have been reports of minimal LP gains and devastating losses, as well as being placed in games with players of considerably higher rank. These issues highlight ongoing problems with the MMR system. Schalke 04’s Konstantinos-Napoleon “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou even provided an example of a particularly unfair lobby.

Unanswered Questions and Matchmaking System Issues

While Riot Games’ comments have provided some relief, there are still unanswered questions regarding the ranked climb. On a positive note, Riot has responded to FORG1VEN’s tweet and acknowledged an issue with the matchmaking system that caused players to be matched lower than their actual skill level. They assured that the issue will be resolved within a few hours.
