Cloud9 reaches deal to acquire Perkz from G2 Esports: Reports

G2 Esports and Cloud9 Reach Agreement for Perkz Transfer

G2 Esports and Cloud9 have reportedly agreed to send Perkz to North America to play for C9 in the upcoming 2021 season, according to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf.

The deal is set to become official on Nov. 16 at 7pm ET when the League of Legends free agency market opens. However, both organizations have come to terms ahead of the offseason’s busiest period.

C9 Emerges as Highest Bidder for Perkz’s Contract

Earlier this week, it was reported that G2 was exploring options to trade Perkz to multiple teams, including TSM, Team Vitality, and 100 Thieves. Ultimately, Cloud9 presented the highest bid for Perkz’s contract.

The exact amount sent by Cloud9 to G2 in the transaction is undisclosed. However, it is worth noting that the buyout for Perkz’s contract was rumored to be almost $5 million. In addition to the buyout, C9 will also be responsible for Perkz’s full-time contract.

Cloud9 Aims for Change after Missing Worlds

Cloud9’s disappointing performance this season led to the organization failing to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship for the first time ever. This major roster move indicates that Cloud9 is determined to make significant changes heading into 2021.

Moreover, the transfer raises questions regarding the current rosters of both teams. Since Cloud9 already has Zven as their AD Carry, it is likely that Perkz will join the team as a mid laner – a position he played throughout his career before Caps joined G2 in 2018.

Implications and Next Steps

If this is the case, Cloud9 will need to find a new role for their current mid laner, Nisqy. As for G2, filling the void left by Perkz in the AD Carry position will be a challenging task.

The search for replacements and adjustments will officially begin on Nov. 16 when the League of Legends free agency market opens.
