SKT’s Victory Over EDG Clinches Cloud9’s Spot in Worlds’ Quarterfinals

SK Telecom T1 Upsets EDward Gaming at Worlds

SK Telecom T1 pulls off a surprising victory against EDward Gaming at Worlds, eliminating the LPL’s first seed from the competition.

EDG, determined to secure a tiebreaker for second place with Cloud9, needed to defeat SKT after a rough start to the second week with three losses.

EDG initially gained an advantage by securing kills and an early tower. However, SKT underestimated their opponents and was caught off guard by additional EDG players during early fights.

Capitalizing on this advantage, EDG quickly took down all three outer towers in just over 10 minutes.

Despite SKT’s struggles, they managed to slow down the tempo of the game and prevent EDG from closing it out. SKT lost a single member, but EDG’s attempt to end the game after securing the Baron was unsuccessful.

The game turned around when EDG overstayed their welcome and attempted an overly-aggressive play after losing their bottom inhibitor. SKT won the fight, secured an ace, and equalized the gold lead by taking the Baron.

A few minutes later, SKT further solidified their upset victory by picking off EDG’s carries in the mid lane, allowing them to force their way into EDG’s base and take down their Nexus.

With this win, Cloud9 advances as the second-place team in Group A. SKT finishes at the top of the group and will face Misfits in the quarterfinals.
