Liquid’s APA reveals a rare Neeko mechanic in LoL solo queue that you might not be aware of

If You’re a League of Legends Mid Laner, APA Has a Champion Pick That Can Help You Climb

If you’re a mid laner in League of Legends and you’re looking for a new champion to help you climb your ranked ladders, Team Liquid’s mid laner Eain “APA” Stearns might have just the thing for you.

In a recent video, APA explained a hidden Neeko mechanic that he discovered, which can give you a significant advantage in the early game against various mid lane matchups. He believes that Neeko can be a strong choice for players with fast reflexes.

The Hidden Neeko Mechanic

The mechanic revolves around Neeko’s ability to transform into a minion. This transformation can deny the activation of certain enemy champion abilities, runes, and items. In the video, APA demonstrates this mechanic while facing off against Akali, who wants to activate her Assassin’s Mark passive with one of her basic abilities.

As Akali attempts to hit Neeko with her Five-Point Strike, APA quickly changes into a minion before the ability lands. This denies Akali’s passive and prevents her from continuing the trade. Although it doesn’t reduce the damage of Akali’s ability, it does hinder her effectiveness if she wants to follow up with auto-attacks or other abilities.

APA also shows that if Neeko transforms into a minion while throwing out her spells, it prevents enemy defensive runes and items from activating. For example, in the video, APA throws out Neeko’s Blooming Burst at Akali but transforms right before it lands. This prevents Akali’s Second Wind rune and her Doran’s Shield item passive from triggering.

Furthermore, APA confirms that by transforming into a minion before an ability hits Neeko, she can dodge the effects of damage runes like Scorch and Summon Aery. This mechanic can greatly contribute to winning the early moments of the game by creating a damage differential and allowing for more efficient trading.

Mastering the Mechanic

To utilize this mechanic effectively, you’ll need to set up Neeko’s Shapesplitter ability on a separate keybind. This will allow you to activate the spell quickly when needed.
