Teasers for the Next League of Legends Champion
Last week, Riot’s champion design team teased the upcoming League of Legends champion in this month’s Champion Roadmap.
Players have since discovered interesting hints on the PBE that provide insights into the new champion before her official reveal. Her name appears to be Daphna the Dreamer.
A New Rune
One clue came with the introduction of a new rune called Celestial Body. This rune increases health but reduces early damage, and it features a quote from Daphna the Dreamer in its tagline. This name has never been seen before in the League universe. However, it should be noted that there are also items in the game owned by someone named Doran, who remains unseen.
A Sleeping Status Effect
On the PBE, players may encounter a new status effect called “Sleeping” when entering Summoner’s Rift. This effect is accompanied by bubbles and butterflies floating around the champion model. It is plausible that “The Dreamer” would cause this status effect on her victims. Interestingly, Riot’s Champion Roadmap post included a teaser image featuring bubbles and butterflies when discussing the new champion.
Daphna the Dreamer
Considering these three pieces of evidence, it is highly likely that Daphna the Dreamer will indeed be the next champion. She is expected to be a playful burst mage with sleep-inducing abilities.
Given the number of teasers on the PBE this week, her official reveal is anticipated to occur very soon, possibly within the next few days.
Update Oct. 21, 2pm CT: The new champion will not be named Daphna the Dreamer, but the rest of the teasers remain valid. Riot has referred to the name as a “funny coincidence” in a post on the official game forums.
