Jensen and Jojopyun face off in LCS Season 2023 Kickoff’s Zoomers vs. Boomers showdown

The LCS Season 2023 Kickoff Sets the Stage for Zoomers vs Boomers Showdown

The age-old question of whether zoomers or boomers possess superior League of Legends skills will be finally put to rest as the LCS kicks off the Season 2023 tournament. Taking place tomorrow at 1pm CT, this unique event will feature a combination of young and veteran talent from all 10 LCS teams. The players, who have not previously competed together, will be split into two teams, testing whether the younger generation truly represents the future or if experience will prevail.

Zoomers vs Boomers

The two teams competing in this tournament are Team Zoomer and Team Boomer. Team Zoomer comprises Immortals top laner Revenge, FlyQuest jungler Spica, Evil Geniuses mid laner Jojopyun, Cloud9 ADC Berserker, and 100 Thieves support Busio. They will go head-to-head against Team Boomer, made up of TSM top laner Solo, CLG jungler Contractz, Dignitas mid laner Jensen, Golden Guardians ADC Stixxay, and Team Liquid support CoreJJ. The winning team will be rewarded with an exclusive in-game emote.

Replacing the LCS Lock-In Tournament

The Season 2023 Kickoff serves as a replacement for the LCS Lock-In tournament, which traditionally marked the beginning of the season for the past two years. Scheduled to begin on Jan. 26, the 2023 Spring Split will feature all the players from this tournament, as well as those who aren’t participating. This event offers fans the first opportunity to witness the players in action on the Rift in 2023.

The Fearless Format

The Season 2023 Kickoff will follow a “fearless” format, featuring a best-of-three series with no bans for either side. Once a champion is chosen, it cannot be picked again in subsequent games. This format allows for greater champion diversity and the implementation of unique strategies that fans may not typically see in the regular season.

Controversies and Concerns

Notably, the LCS portion of this event has drawn criticism due to its timing, which aligns closely with the regular season’s start. Fans have expressed dissatisfaction with this change, as well as the shift to Thursday and Friday match days. The potential impact on viewership has raised concerns, although the LCS has yet to address these grievances. Additionally, the news of long-time host James “Dash” Patterson not returning full-time has further fueled worries among fans. With only two weeks until the start of the LCS Spring Split, there is a lack of information on what the broadcast will look like this year.

In the meantime, fans can anticipate an exciting clash between LCS newcomers and seasoned veterans during the Season 2023 Kickoff, commencing on Jan. 10 at 1pm CT.
