Riot warns against frequent reporting of LoL players, citing potential backfire

The Importance of Responsible Reporting in League of Legends

Toxic and griefing behavior in League of Legends is unfortunately all too common. Whether it’s in the lobby, during a match, or even after the game, players can report these negative experiences. However, it’s crucial to understand that the reporting system should not be abused or overused.

Riot Games’ lead champion designer, August “Riot August” Browning, recently addressed this issue during a stream. He confirmed that consistently reporting other players, regardless of the reason (toxic behavior or intentional feeding), can lead to your reports being taken less seriously.

“We look at reports less from people who report too much… Players who report others for the most trivial things are not prioritized because it’s easy to recognize these individuals. They are simply angry at everyone and report anyone for any reason,” explained Riot August.

In essence, Riot August is warning that if you excessively report a large portion of players in your games, your actions will likely be disregarded by Riot. This system is in place to filter out unnecessary complaints and prioritize genuine reports.

While it may seem concerning that this could encourage more inappropriate behavior, ignoring reports from individuals with repetitive complaints is ultimately beneficial. Without this system, Riot would be flooded with minor complaints, such as a player banning someone’s favorite champion, and true reports would go unnoticed.

There is still one question left unanswered: Will the system punish you if you are genuinely using reports for legitimate reasons due to bad luck in recent games?

The moral of the story is to use the reporting system responsibly and only when necessary. Do not use it as a tool for revenge against a player who stole your cannon minion or frog, as there will always be more opportunities in your next game.
