Licorice will not be part of Cloud9’s 2021 LCS roster

Cloud9 Announces Roster Shake-Up for 2021

Cloud9, a dominant force in the League of Legends Spring Split, is making changes to its roster as it prepares for the upcoming 2021 season. Top laner Licorice, who has been with C9 since 2017, announced that he will not be part of the team next year. Licorice played a crucial role in C9’s success, including reaching the semifinals of the Worlds in 2018.

Licorice’s Departure

Licorice confirmed the news on Twitter, expressing his pride in helping the team win championships and bringing joy to C9 fans. He acknowledged that changing teams is a natural part of being a professional player and looks forward to competing with a new team next year. [YouTube video URL]

C9’s Success and Struggles

Since Licorice joined C9, the team has performed well, reaching multiple LCS Finals, winning a domestic title and making it to the Worlds semifinals. In the 2020 season, C9 had a strong start, dominating the Spring Split regular season and playoffs. However, their performance dipped in the Summer Split, finishing second in the regular season. The team’s inconsistent performance prevented them from qualifying for Worlds, ending their streak of consecutive appearances since 2013.

C9’s New Top Laner

Licorice’s reported replacement is Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami, the current C9 Academy top laner. Fudge, who hails from Australia, had a successful season, winning both Academy splits. C9’s recent acquisition of Fudge aligns with the changes to the import status of Oceanic players, making it easier for him to join the main roster. Fudge’s contract was also extended, securing his position with the team until 2023.
