LoL gamers reach consensus on reviving outdated mobility-countering item similar to Statik Shiv

Frozen Mallet: The Next Item to Make a Comeback in League of Legends?

After the grand return of the iconic item Statik Shiv in Patch 13.10, League of Legends players are now calling for the revival of another long-lost item: Frozen Mallet. The community believes that this item deserves a second chance, especially in the current high-mobility meta.

The Call for Frozen Mallet’s Return

On October 4, a Reddit post gained traction among League players, with many agreeing that Frozen Mallet should receive the same treatment as Statik Shiv and make a comeback in the game. The post can be found here.

According to one player, “With how much mobility has been added to the game since its removal, Frozen Mallet has a place in League again. Its main problem was ranged champions like Vayne/gnar running it, but since its removal Riot has had no problem locking melee/ranged champions out of certain items.”

A New Role for Frozen Mallet

Originally, Frozen Mallet slowed the target by 20 or 40 percent, depending on whether the champion was ranged or melee. However, this mechanic now seems to only punish non-mobile champions who are attacked once and have no means to escape. To make Frozen Mallet viable again, it would need to undergo a makeover to become a full-blown anti-mobility item. This could serve as a grounding item, but would come with a bigger cooldown and a higher cost.

Looking Towards the Future

This is just one idea for the potential revival of Frozen Mallet. Statik Shiv underwent several iterations before its return, and it’s clear that League of Legends needs more tools to address the issue of mobility creep. Frozen Mallet could be a step in the right direction.
