Riot Disables Stopwatch Purchase post-Upgrade to Zhonya’s Hourglass or Guardian Angel in Patch 12.8

The Controversial Stopwatch Item in League of Legends is Getting a Major Change in Patch 12.8

One of the most debated items in League of Legends, Stopwatch, will undergo a significant adjustment in the upcoming Patch 12.8. In this new update, players will no longer be able to purchase another Stopwatch once they upgrade their initial Stopwatch to either Zhonya’s Hourglass or Guardian Angel.

Previously, players had the ability to use the active effects of both Zhonya’s Hourglass and Stopwatch, which offered them prolonged invulnerability in team fights. However, with Patch 12.8, players will have to choose between the active effect of Zhonya’s or the passive effect of Guardian Angel, without the opportunity to “go golden” for the cost of 650 gold.

According to Riot Games, the developers of League of Legends, the removal of the ability to use Stopwatch alongside its upgraded items is due to the disruptive nature it brings to the game state. Players using this optimization caused awkward moments, and thus, it was deemed necessary to remove it.

With Stopwatch no longer available for late-game itemization purposes, players will now be encouraged to save the excess 650 gold and invest it in other late-game items instead.

The changes to Stopwatch will be implemented in Patch 12.8, which will go live on April 27th on the League of Legends servers.
