Evil Geniuses Stuns 100 Thieves in LCS Spring Split Finals
Last weekend, Evil Geniuses emerged victorious against defending champions 100 Thieves in the 2022 LCS Spring Split finals. As a result, they secured a spot in the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational. The tournament, set to take place in Busan, South Korea, will mark the international debut of Evil Geniuses’ mid laner, jojopyun.
jojopyun’s participation in this event is significant, as he becomes only the fourth native North American mid laner to compete in an international tournament since 2014.
Previous Native NA Mid Laners in International Events
In the past eight years, three other native North American mid laners have participated in international events. These players include Pobelter, Damonte, and Hai. Pobelter holds the record for the most appearances on the international stage. He played in four editions of the League of Legends World Championship from 2015 to 2018, along with MSI. Damonte, on the other hand, played at Worlds 2019, while Hai appeared in Worlds 2014 (although in 2015, Hai played as a jungler for C9 despite qualifying for Worlds as a mid laner).
North American Mid Lane Talent and Success
North American teams consistently bring in talent from abroad, particularly in the mid-lane position. Players like Bjergsen and Jensen, originally from Denmark, have represented NA teams at international events on numerous occasions. They have participated in multiple Worlds and MSI events. Since 2014, other notable mid laners who have played for NA teams internationally include Perkz, Abbedagge, Nisqy, and PowerOfEvil.

Despite the influx of foreign talent, jojopyun’s emergence as a promising player showcases the potential of young NA stars in the league.
