DRX’s World Champion Head Coach to Join LCS in 2023

FlyQuest Signs World Champion Coach Ssong for 2023 LCS Season

FlyQuest has made a major addition to their roster for the 2023 LCS season. Kim “Ssong” Sang-soo, the head coach of the reigning world champions DRX, is set to join FlyQuest, according to esports reporter Brieuc Seeger.

According to the global contract database, Ssong’s agreement with DRX expired in late November. Ssong, along with assistant coach Lee “Mowgli” Jae-ha, led DRX to a surprising victory over T1 in the finals in San Francisco last year.

Ssong’s Extensive Coaching Career

Ssong is no stranger to the LCS. He played as a mid laner in 2012 with NaJin Sword and attended Worlds that year. Since then, he has achieved success as a coach, leading the 2016 ROX Tigers to a Summer title in the LCK and guiding Immortals to a Worlds berth in Summer 2017. He has also coached teams in North America such as TSM, Echo Fox, and CLG before returning to South Korea to join DRX’s staff.

FlyQuest’s New Roster

FlyQuest is undergoing a complete rebuild with a new president and chief gaming officer, PapaSmithy, at the helm. The organization has made substantial changes, including releasing its entire 2022 roster. Notable additions to the team include support player Eyla from Team Liquid Academy and mid laner Lee “VicLa” Dae-Kwang, the 2022 LCK Rookie of the Year. Top laner Impact and jungler Spica are also reportedly joining FlyQuest, completing a strong roster.

With these new acquisitions, FlyQuest aims to make a strong impact in the upcoming season. The team is determined to utilize its newfound resources, following its recent acquisition by the owner of the NHL’s Florida Panthers, to compete at the highest level in the LCS.
