Team Dignitas’ bid to join the NA LCS allegedly denied

Team Dignitas is Out of the NA LCS

The bad news continues for NA LCS teams. First, Immortals and TSM failed to get out of the group stage at Worlds. And now, according to an ESPN report, Team Dignitas, one of the biggest brands in the region, is out of the NA LCS.

Franchised League Applications Rejected

Riot Games started notifying applicants to the new franchised league about rejected applications last Tuesday, as reported by ESPN. More than one current LCS organization has had its application denied, according to the same report from ESPN.

Team Dignitas’ Story Falls Short

Team Dignitas’ return to the NA LCS was one of the major storylines in League esports this season. The franchise had been a long-time part of the North American scene, with popular players. The backing from Philadelphia 76ers NBA team seemed to boost the team financially and operationally, which are key factors in Riot’s franchising application process.

However, with over 100 applications, many from organizations with significant funds and experience in sports and esports, it appears that Dignitas’ story wasn’t compelling enough. This raises doubts about the applications from other endemic teams. Even with a strong and recognizable brand, substantial financial support, and on-stage success with playoff appearances in both 2017 splits, Dignitas still failed to meet the high bar for acceptance into the future of the NA LCS.

More Rejections Expected

It’s likely that more endemic organizations will receive rejection letters and calls, given the current trend. The future of the NA LCS seems to have set a high standard for acceptance.
