T1 Faker: ‘European Solo Queue Quality Far Surpasses Korean’

Faker Expresses Doubts About Korean Solo Queue Compared to EU

One of the greatest players in professional League of Legends, Faker from T1, recently voiced his concerns about the solo queue experience in Korea after playing in Europe for the 2021 World Championship.

Faker, who reached the semi-finals at Worlds 2021, shared his thoughts during a livestream on Twitch. He expressed that the quality of solo queue games on the Korean server is worse compared to Europe, where he played while in Iceland. To support his claim, Faker showcased his match history on the Korean server, which was filled with losses due to AFK teammates and remakes. Most of these losses were in the Challenger rank.

During the livestream, Faker mentioned that Korean solo queue games are often determined within the first few minutes or end quickly due to the performance of teammates. According to a translation from Twitter user Gatamchun, Faker said, “The thing is, the Korean solo queue quality is so low, compared to EU. Here, 8 to 9 out of ten games are already busted.”

It’s likely that Faker experiences this “low quality” because of his fame as a player and his League username being publicly available on his Twitch streams. Users on a Reddit thread discussing Faker’s comment acknowledged that he is often targeted in Korean solo queue games, making it harder for him to win when opponents recognize him as a three-time world champion.

Although the usernames of professional League players are easily accessible on various websites, it’s uncommon for the general player base to have the opportunity to play alongside them due to their high ranks.

Faker and the rest of T1 aimed to secure the organization’s fourth world title at the 2021 World Championship but were defeated by last year’s champions, DWG KIA. DWG KIA lost to EDward Gaming in the final and became the runners-up of the tournament.
