Aurelion Sol Set to Receive Nerfs in League Patch 11.15 Due to Exceptionally High Win Rates in Elite MMR, Riot Announces

Aurelion Sol to Receive Nerfs in League of Legends Patch 11.15

Fans of League of Legends’ Aurelion Sol will be disappointed to hear that the resident star forger will be receiving nerfs in the upcoming Patch 11.15. Despite his rare appearances on the Summoner’s Rift, Riot Games’ lead game designer Jeevin “Jag” Sidhu explained the reasoning behind these changes.

High Win Rates in Elite MMR

In the Elite player group, which includes Challenger-ranked players and those in the 99.9 percentile, Aurelion Sol has consistently maintained a win rate of 57.3% and 57.4% over the past two patches. Notably, this is the highest win rate among all champions in Elite MMR, leading to adjustments for the champion.

Debates and Low Play Rate

Despite his impressive win rates, Aurelion Sol does not have the highest one-trick rate or any comparable metric that would explain his low play rate. Some players argue against the need for nerfs, pointing out his ban rate of just 0.2% in ranks above Platinum. Additionally, his pick rate is only 0.9%, making him one of the least-picked champions in the game.

Limited Presence in Competitive Play

Aurelion Sol’s presence in competitive play has been nearly non-existent in 2021. He has been played only twice in the top lane and six times in the mid lane throughout the year. Surprisingly, he has won seven of those matchups. However, he has been banned 17 times, with a majority of the games featuring him coming from Brazil and the Czech Republic.

The extent of the nerfs to Aurelion Sol will be revealed in the upcoming patch notes, scheduled for release later this week. Patch 11.15 will bring significant changes to other popular champions as well, including Gwen, Irelia, Blitzcrank, and Rell. Players can expect the patch to go live on Wednesday, July 21.
