Montecristo and Counter Logic Gaming End Their Relationship

Counter Logic Gaming Coach MonteCristo Steps Down

Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, the well-known analyst and coach of Counter Logic Gaming, has announced that he will be stepping down from his coaching role with the team. This decision is said to be mutual, as Mykles wants to focus on his career as an analyst and commentator, while Counter Logic Gaming is in need of a full-time on-site coach.

Mykles stated, “As time went on, it became clear that the organization requires an in-house coach, and I couldn’t fulfill the needs of the players as long as I pursued my work in casting.”

Despite coaching the team remotely from Korea, Mykles spent over 30 hours a week working with Counter Logic Gaming. However, the team’s disappointing performance in the playoffs made it evident that they needed a coach who could be present on-site.

The playoffs were disastrous for Counter Logic Gaming. They were swept by Curse Gaming and suffered a 3-1 loss to Dignitas, resulting in a sixth place finish and the need to survive relegations to stay in the LCS.

This sparked controversy within the community, as Mykles received criticism for his perceived lack of effectiveness. However, Mykles has offered his services for the upcoming relegation match, but the team has decided to work with their in-house resources instead.

Zuna Steps In

One of the resources being utilized is Christopher “Zuna” Buechter, a former marksman for LCS team XDG Gaming. Currently staying at the CLG house, Buechter is working with the team to prepare for their match against Curse Academy. It’s unclear if this will lead to a future relationship with Buechter, but no official announcement has been made.

Ultimately, it was time for Counter Logic Gaming and Mykles to part ways. The team expressed gratitude for Mykles’ work, despite it being online for the most part.

“Just wanted to thank @ggCMonteCristo for all of his work despite it only being online a majority of the time… great person and friend!” tweeted Marcel Feldkamp, also known as CLG_dexter.

Mykles also received support from Feldkamp, who tweeted, “Keep it up and make sure to ignore the haters. I know you gave it your all to help us, and it’s time for people to know.”

With Mykles stepping down, Counter Logic Gaming will need to regroup and find a new coach to guide them in the LCS.
