League of Legends players express disappointment over the underwhelming new summoner icon

League of Legends Patch 13.17 Introduces New Champion Icons, But One Stands Out

Summoner icons for all 165 champions in League of Legends were recently added to the store with the launch of patch 13.17. However, players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Elise summoner icon, calling it “bland” and “childish.”

Players Displeased with Elise Summoner Icon

The community took to the League subreddit to voice their concerns about the Illustration summoner icon for Elise. They believe that the icon does not accurately represent her personality and that her friendly appearance contradicts her in-game persona.

“She doesn’t even look like Elise,” one user commented. “And when would Elise ever be smiling like that? It’s out of character and looks like a cheap cosplay.”

Changes to Elise’s Icon Spark Controversy

The Elise summoner icon underwent some changes, including making her eyes more open, closing her mouth, and adjusting the position of her eyebrows. These alterations have made the icon less intimidating and have led some players to feel that Elise is portrayed less like a villain.

One player shared their thoughts, stating, “Yeah, it’s weird. She’s one of the very few champs who look cheerful in these icons, and she’s definitely not one who fits that mood.”

Misrepresentative Theming in Champion Icons

While the addition of summoner icons for all 165 champions is exciting, some artistic choices have left players puzzled. The Elise example is just the tip of the iceberg, as Ivern and Gragas also have icons that do not match their respective themes. Additionally, champions like Xerath hardly resemble their in-game appearances in the icons.

It’s still early into the release of these icons, so Riot Games may consider making artistic changes based on player feedback. However, this is not guaranteed.

The Illustration series summoner icons are available for purchase in the in-client store for 250 RP each.
