LEC Spring Finals 2022 Witnessed a Peak of 723,000 Viewers with 4 Popular Matches Featuring G2 Esports

G2 Esports Dominates 2022 LEC Spring Finals with Sweeping Victory

G2 Esports, the reigning champions of the European League of Legends (LoL) scene, cemented their status as the best team in Europe by convincingly defeating Rogue in the 2022 LEC Spring Finals. The highly anticipated match attracted a massive viewership of over 723,000, according to streaming stat site Esports Charts.

G2’s victory wasn’t just impressive in terms of viewership. It marked their fourth appearance in the five most-watched matches of the entire 2022 Spring Split, showcasing their dominance and popularity among the LoL community.

G2’s Resilient Fanbase and New Signings Boost Viewership

Despite a relatively lackluster performance last year, G2’s dedicated fanbase didn’t waver, resulting in a substantial viewership for their matches. Additionally, the addition of new players Flakked and Targamas, who previously had successful stints in the LVP and LFL leagues, helped attract a broader demographic of fans.

Decline in Viewership for LEC Spring Split

While the 2022 Spring Split garnered lower peak viewership numbers compared to the past three years, this can be attributed to various factors. Esports Charts reports that the 2021 Spring Split reached a peak of 843,000 viewers, and the 2020 Spring Split reached just over 817,000 during the intense series between G2 and Fnatic in the finals.

Furthermore, the average viewership for the 2022 LEC Spring Split has also dipped compared to the previous two years. This decline can be attributed to the league experiencing a transitional phase, with several star players leaving the region or struggling to secure a spot in a roster for this year. Notably, iconic players like Rekkles, Inspired, Hans sama, and Bwipo either couldn’t find starting positions or opted to join North American teams.

Expectations for the Future

Despite the decline in viewership, the exposure to Europe’s burgeoning talent pool could lead to a surge in viewership when the 2022 Summer Split commences later this year. Fans will eagerly tune in to witness the rise of new stars and witness thrilling battles in the world of competitive LoL.
