C9 Set to Begin Isles as Support in 2022 LCS Spring Split Playoff Match Against Golden Guardians

Cloud9 Makes Support Position Change Ahead of LCS Playoff Series

Cloud9 is making a sudden change at the support position for their upcoming lower bracket match against Golden Guardians in the 2022 LCS Spring Split playoffs. Instead of their regular starter Winsome, C9 will field substitute support Isles for the series. Winsome will be moved to the Academy level as part of this change.

Isles Steps Up

Isles has not played at the LCS level during the 2022 Spring Split, with his last game alongside C9’s main League of Legends roster being during the preseason Lock In tournament. At that time, C9 had to play with a mix of starters and substitutes due to roster issues.

Coach Max Waldo Explains the Decision

In an announcement on Twitter, C9 head coach Max Waldo explained the reasoning behind the change. He mentioned that the team was struggling in scrims, making it hard to improve. Additionally, the limited in-game communication was preventing them from implementing strategies and solutions discussed in reviews.

C9’s Playoff Series Against Golden Guardians

Last weekend, C9 was eliminated from the upper bracket by 100 Thieves in the first round of the playoffs. Winsome’s performance in that match fell below his Spring Split average. Now, with Isles in the support position, C9 hopes to communicate better and execute more precise plans to gain advantages in their upcoming series against Golden Guardians.

The series will be the first official game for Isles and AD carry Berserker as a bottom lane pairing for C9. The team has been scrimmaging with Isles in the starting lineup, which has led to improvements in their in-game planning and reviews.

The match against Golden Guardians will take place on April 9 at 3:30pm CT. Stay tuned for updates on C9’s performance in the playoffs.
