Hylissang, Labrov, Caps, and Kirei top LEC in deaths during the initial 4 weeks of 2021 Summer Split

Surprising Stats in the LEC Summer Split

It’s only been four weeks since the start of the 2021 LEC Summer Split, but there are already some interesting anomalies happening in the league. After nine games, Fnatic’s support Hylissang and Team Vitality’s support Labrov are currently tied for the most deaths in the season. G2 Esports’ star mid laner Caps and Schalke 04’s Kirei are also tied for the second-most deaths, as per Oracle’s Elixir.

Hylissang’s Aggressive Playstyle

Hylissang’s high death count is not surprising given his aggressive playstyle, which sometimes leads to him getting caught out during games. In fact, he ended the 2021 Spring Split with the highest death count of 99. What’s unexpected, however, is that despite Hylissang’s deaths, Fnatic only ranks fifth in terms of total deaths among all teams, behind Vitality, G2, Schalke, SK Gaming, and MAD Lions.

Caps’ Struggles in the Summer Split

One of the biggest surprises of the season is Caps’ performance, with 34 deaths so far. To put this into perspective, Caps only died 34 times throughout the entire 2021 Spring Split. This means he has already matched last season’s death count in just half of the time. Caps also has the lowest KDA, kill participation percentage, and damage numbers among all LEC mid laners, according to Oracle’s Elixir.

The 21-year-old phenom and his top laner Wunder have been struggling this summer, resulting in G2’s lackluster 4-5 record and tie for fifth place. The former kings of Europe seem to have lost their dominance, and they need to improve their performance if they want a guaranteed spot at this year’s World Championship. Up-and-coming teams like Misfits are challenging the top of the LEC.

G2’s Road to Recovery

G2 will have the opportunity to bounce back and find consistency in the upcoming matches against Astralis and Rogue in week five of the 2021 LEC Summer Split, starting on Friday, July 9.
