Riot Lutzburg: No Consensus at Riot about Wukong’s Low Damage

The Wukong Rework: Fans and Developers at Odds over Champion’s Strength

The highly anticipated Wukong rework is soon to be released on the live servers of the popular game League of Legends. However, some fans remain dissatisfied with the current state of the Monkey King on the Public Beta Environment (PBE). Nathan “Lutzburg” Lutz from Riot Games, though, stands firmly behind the decisions made by the developers and assures players that Wukong’s damage is not lacking.

Support from the Developer

Lutzburg addressed the criticisms surrounding Wukong’s current form, stating, “Not a single person at Riot believes Wukong’s damage is too low. I’m sorry you feel that way, but I don’t know what to tell you when 20+ professionals are confidently saying otherwise” (source: Twitter). Despite this assurance, some Wukong enthusiasts expressed their concerns, claiming that the champion’s abilities are underwhelming and that recent nerfs on the PBE have made him feel worse to play.

Clarifying the Changes

Lutzburg shed light on the reasoning behind certain changes. Wukong’s E cooldown was increased to compensate for his improved gap-closing ability with the new W. Additionally, his stealth ability was adjusted to prevent players from excessively dashing at high speeds. These changes were made to ensure balance and address other areas of Wukong’s kit that needed adjustment.

A Matter of Perspective

Some League fans questioned Lutzburg’s statement about the expertise of the “20+ professionals,” arguing that players with extensive experience and high rankings on Wukong should be taken into account. On the other hand, some believed that these one-trick players simply desire an overpowered champion following the rework’s release.

Regardless, players will need to adapt to Wukong’s reworked kit, whether they face him or play as him. The rework is currently available for testing on the PBE.
