2023 League of Legends Worlds Qualifying Series Last Chance Qualifier for EU/NA: An Overview

The 2023 League of Legends World Championship is just a month away and has some exciting changes in store. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of the “Swiss stage” to replace the group stage. Additionally, the tournament will feature the “Worlds Qualifying Series,” a best-of-five between two top teams from major regions vying for the final slot in the tournament.

The Worlds Qualifying Series is a last chance for a European and North American League of Legends team to secure a spot in Worlds. The fourth-place teams from the LCS (North America) and the LEC (Europe) will face off for the last available spot in the tournament.

This series was created to address the lack of dedicated best-of-five matches between EU and NA. Until recently, very few matches were played between these two regions outside of Rift Rivals events. Last year’s World Championship play-in stage broke the drought when Evil Geniuses defeated MAD Lions in a clean sweep. Since then, the rivalry between EU and NA has been reignited, and we can expect another exciting match between the regions this year.

The Worlds Qualifying Series will feature Golden Guardians from the LCS and Team BDS from the LEC. These teams finished fourth in their respective regions’ playoffs and will have one final opportunity to secure a spot at Worlds.

The top three teams from EU and NA have already qualified for the Worlds Swiss stage. However, the winner of the Worlds Qualifying Series will still need to go through the play-in stage to secure their place at Worlds.

The 2023 Worlds Qualifying Series will take place on October 9th. The match will determine which team from Europe or North America earns the final spot at this year’s LoL World Championship.

Following the series, the winning team will have a short turnaround as the play-in stage begins the next day. They will have just 24 hours to prepare for the tournament.
