Dplus KIA secures fifth consecutive Worlds qualification with an incredible LoL streak

Since Dplus KIA joined the LCK in 2019, they have consistently been a top-performing team. This year, despite a somewhat disappointing summer regular split, the team secured a spot in Worlds 2023, which will be held in their home country of South Korea.

After defeating DRX in the first round of the Regional Finals, DK faced Hanwha Life Esports on August 26 in a hard-fought match. Despite not being the favorite, DK emerged victorious with a 3-1 score in a match that lasted more than 30 minutes in each game.

Alongside their qualification for Worlds, DK holds an impressive record in the LCK. Since joining the league, they have always made it to the Worlds, whether through winning the championship or the regional finals. This remarkable record includes their players Canyon and ShowMaker, who have been with the team for the past five years.

ADC player Deft, who won the title with DRX last year, will be making his sixth appearance at Worlds. He and Pyosik are the only two members from last year’s championship roster who will participate in this year’s tournament. Additionally, Deft holds a unique record of playing for six different teams at Worlds, including Samsung Blue, EDward Gaming, KT Rolster, DRX, Hanwha Life Esports, and now DK. This equals Faker’s record in terms of appearances.

DK has consistently performed well at Worlds, always reaching the top eight teams in every tournament they have attended. They will be joining Gen.G, T1, and KT Rolster as the LCK quartet representing the region this year. With the new tournament format and the support of their home crowd, DK could be a dark horse among the eastern teams.
