Doublelift remains fully committed to LCS, but significant choices loom in 2024

Doublelift Plans to Continue Playing Professionally in 2024

Despite the end of 100 Thieves’ competitive League of Legends year, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, a prominent figure in the LCS, has reassured his fans that he is ready to embark on the next chapter of his North American star legacy.

In a post-game interview following their unsuccessful series against Team Liquid, the 30-year-old veteran expressed to Mark “MarkZ” Zimmerman his intention to continue playing professionally in 2024.

Doublelift’s Determination

“I didn’t come back for one disappointing year just to crawl back into streamer mode or anything like that,” Doublelift emphasized. “I love playing League, I love playing professionally. Even in defeat, there is beauty in feeling like garbage because it motivates me. Overcoming obstacles and hardships is what makes it rewarding in the end.”

The legendary AD carry made a comeback to pro play this year after taking a break from the stage in 2020. However, he failed to reach the same heights he once achieved during his prime with teams like TSM, Team Liquid, and Counter Logic Gaming.

Over the past year, Doublelift maintained a consistently high level of gameplay. He ranked among the top three LCS ADs in kill participation, total kill share, early game stats, and total team damage share, according to Oracle’s Elixir. However, the Thieves struggled with consistency as a team, barely making it to the playoffs with a disappointing 7-11 record and eventually getting eliminated by Liquid in four games.

The Future of Doublelift

While this year may not have been the comeback Doublelift hoped for, his competitive drive remains strong. The future of Doublelift in the LCS for 2024 is a multifaceted equation. His contract with the Thieves will expire on Tuesday, Nov. 21, according to the LoL Esports global contract database.

Doublelift will become a free agent unless he signs a contract extension with the team. However, this does not guarantee his presence in the league next year. Fans must consider various factors, including Doublelift’s desire to join a team that can contend for a championship.

Although many teams will undoubtedly seek to sign Doublelift due to his mechanical prowess, veteran knowledge, and brand power, there is no guarantee that these teams will provide enticing conditions for the star to agree. Moreover, several top teams in the league already have talented AD carry players on their rosters, potentially limiting Doublelift’s options.
