A New Update Coming this Friday: Possible Removal of Position Ranks in League

New Update on Ranked System in League of Legends

A new update on the current ranked system in League of Legends is set to be released this Friday, according to a recent Twitter post by lead designer Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer. The update will discuss the state of Ranked, as well as provide details on position ranks, high-skill matchmaking, and the top of the ladder. While it’s unclear whether the news will be positive or negative, we can speculate based on a recent update to the ranked system.

Potential Drastic Changes

In a recent developer update, SapMagic mentioned that the design team is evaluating the overall ranked changes implemented this season. While the changes have been well-received by the community, there may be a removal of the positional rank preview, resulting in a return to a single rank. Despite positional matchmaking working effectively, players have voiced concerns that position ranks are too time-consuming, lack a sense of reward, and diminish competitive intent.

Addressing High-Elo Issues

The upcoming update will also address issues faced by high-elo players trying to rank up in Diamond and above. Currently, League Points gains are not functioning properly, and players in the Master or higher tiers are sometimes matched with Diamond players when they should not be. The March 8 update is expected to provide more information on this matter.

Stay tuned for the release of the next Ranked team update on March 8 to learn more about the upcoming changes in League of Legends’ ranked system.
