League of Legends introduces an item that leads to permanent player bans as Riot works on a solution

League of Legends Season 13 Preseason Changes and the Perma-Ban Controversy

As 2022 draws to a close, League of Legends players are bidding farewell to Season 12 and eagerly anticipating the arrival of Season 13, which is set to begin in November 2023. This also means that the preseason for Season 13 is about to kick off, bringing with it major visual and gameplay changes, just as Riot Games has done in previous seasons. Season 13 is poised to shake up the game with a host of updates, including the return of Chemtech Drake and new alterations to the jungle.

In the midst of these preseason shifts, one particular item has caused quite a stir, leading to the permanent ban of players who purchase it. This item, known as Heartsteel (formerly Goliath’s Ascendancy), has caught the attention of League of Legends players. In fact, during a PBE game, a Cho’Gath player managed to stack an astronomical 3.7 quintillion health using this new mythic item. However, the item is now permanently banning players under its new name, “Heartsteel.”

Popular League of Legends YouTuber, RossBoomsocks, recently tweeted at Riot Games, revealing that he had been permanently banned from the PBE for what seemed like no reason. Other players reported receiving the same message and, as a result, RossBoomsocks warned players to avoid playing on the PBE until the bug is resolved. Meanwhile, a Reddit user shared their experience on the League PBE subreddit, where several comments mentioned using Heartsteel before incurring a ban of their own.

Riot Games has acknowledged the issue and is currently working on a fix, although no specific timeframe has been provided. They stated, “We’re currently aware of it and are working hard on a fix. However, I cannot provide any estimate for the completion date at this time. To avoid confusing or disappointing players, we try to only announce these dates when we are sure we can meet the arrival schedule.”

As of now, it remains uncertain when players who were banned for using Heartsteel will be unbanned. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: Heartsteel has become the most talked-about feature of League of Legends Season 13. It will be fascinating to see how it performs when it finally makes its debut on live Rift servers.
