DWG KIA Ends Freecs’ Win Streak with 2-0 Victory
DWG KIA halted Kwangdong Freecs’ four-game winning streak today, improving their record to 7-5 in the 2022 LCK Spring Split.
The Freecs, once the bottom-ranked team in the LCK, have been on fire lately, winning four consecutive matches. However, DWG KIA, with a record of 6-5 before today’s match, aimed to maintain their consistency by taking down lower-ranked opponents in the standings.
Game One: Canyon’s Hecarim Dominates
In game one, Canyon’s Hecarim was the standout player. He made his presence felt all over the map from the early game, starting with a successful gank on Freecs’ top laner Kiin. DWG KIA controlled the middle and bottom turrets, while the Freecs managed to claw back by securing dragons and picking off Hecarim. However, DWG KIA’s strong mid-game power spike gave them the upper hand in a five-vs-five teamfight, leading to their victory in 35 minutes.
Game Two: DWG KIA Replicates Success
Game two followed a similar script to the first, with Canyon taking control on Nocturne and Showmaker’s Ryze dominating the map. Despite the Freecs’ attempt to disrupt DWG KIA’s Baron play, they couldn’t match their teamfighting prowess. DWG KIA secured the Baron, pushed through the mid lane, and closed out the game, ending the series with a commanding 2-0 victory.
With this loss, the Freecs drop to a 5-7 record for the season and see their win streak end. Meanwhile, DWG KIA continues to defeat teams ranked below them. The Freecs’ next match will be against Nongshim.Redforce on March 3, followed by a match against Gen.G on March 5, the second-best team in the LCK.
Looking ahead, DWG KIA faces Liiv SANDBOX and Hanwha Life Esports in an easier week seven. However, Hanwha has a history of upsetting top LCK teams, so DWG KIA cannot afford to underestimate them as the regular season transitions to the playoff race.
