Riot Developers Plan Nerfs for Bel’Veth, Miss Fortune, and Others in League Patch 12.21 as They Prepare for 2023

Upcoming Balance Changes for League of Legends Champions

Riot Games has announced the champions in League of Legends that will be receiving nerfs in the next balance patch. The unlucky trio this time consists of Bel’Veth, Blitzcrank, and Miss Fortune. These champions have become “significant outliers” in terms of win rate and impact, and therefore need to be adjusted before the upcoming preseason update in 2023.

The head developer, Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, has not yet confirmed the specific changes, but he has mentioned that the focus will be on the champions who are not heavily affected by the preseason changes. On October 24, he tweeted, “Patch is short and sweet this week. Only addressing significant outliers that aren’t overly affected by [preseason] changes.”

Blitzcrank stands out as the biggest outlier among the three champions. The Great Steam Golem currently has a 53.25% win rate in League matches and is banned in a third of lobbies. Bel’Veth and Miss Fortune have slightly lower win rates at 51.9% and 51.79% respectively, but they are popular picks in their respective roles with high pick and ban rates.

Miss Fortune’s presence at the League World Championship likely contributed to her placement on the nerfs list. She has been picked in 24 Worlds matches so far, according to Gol.gg. In comparison, Bel’Veth was played seven times and Blitzcrank twice.

Bel’Veth, however, seems to dominate at all levels of the game. While Miss Fortune excels in low elo and Blitzcrank dominates high-ranked matches, Bel’Veth remains a powerful presence regardless of skill level.

The specific details of the nerfs are yet to be announced by Riot, but it is expected that Bel’Veth’s “snowball” potential and scaling will be significantly affected.

Release Date and Precautions

Keep in mind that these nerfs are still subject to change. Riot will reveal the exact list of balance changes tomorrow, and the update will be implemented on the live servers on Tuesday, November 2.
