Deft overwhelmed with emotion after achieving historic victory at Worlds 2022.

DRX’s Victory and Deft’s Emotional Moment at Worlds 2022

DRX achieved a remarkable victory against EDward Gaming in the quarterfinal of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, which brought tears of joy to their star AD carry, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu.

Deft’s Emotional Breakdown

After his team reverse-swept the defending champions, Deft couldn’t help but break down in tears, knowing that they secured a spot in the semifinals. This series proved to Deft that despite his long career, he is continuously improving.

Recognizing Personal Progress

In an emotional post-game interview, Deft expressed, “Even if we cannot win Worlds, I just wanted to get this impression that I’m making progress, I’m getting better. And throughout this series, I kinda realized I am getting better, so I’m so happy.”

Deft’s Journey and Retirement Considerations

Deft has been competing since February 2013, starting with MVP Blue. Although he has achieved significant milestones such as an LCK trophy, an LPL trophy, and a Mid-Season Invitational title, he has only made it to the semifinals twice in his numerous Worlds appearances. With the results of Worlds 2022 in mind, Deft mentioned the possibility of retiring from professional gaming after the championship. Winning at Worlds is his ultimate goal, which he has yet to accomplish.

Expected to retire and undergo mandatory military service in South Korea after Worlds 2022, Deft recently hinted at resolving potential issues regarding his compulsory service. There remains a chance that he will continue competing next year.
