TSM’s Dominant Victory Over Dignitas: A Lesson in Strategy and Mindset
After TSM’s 3-0 sweep against Team Dignitas today, support Erik “Treatz” Wessén spoke with about how his team changed their strategies and mindset after their loss against Golden Guardians, as well as his thoughts on the grind that many upcoming North American League of Legends players must take to reach the LCS.
TSM Soul-Searches After Golden Guardians Loss
Prior to TSM’s dominant victory over Dignitas, the team had to first go through some soul-searching after an unexpected and disappointing 0-3 series loss to Golden Guardians. Treatz said that multiple issues caused the loss, from poor drafting to execution problems.
TSM Learns from Mistakes
“I think the biggest things to focus on after the GG series was our drafting phase and our teamfights in general,” Treatz told . “We took bad fights, and mechanically we played them poorly. It was definitely better in this series [against Dignitas], but there’s still room for improvement.”
Change in Strategy
Treatz also mentioned that TSM didn’t opt for their usual counter-pick drafts and instead went for champions they wanted to play. This shift in strategy resulted in a more confident and successful approach against Dignitas.
Mindset for the Playoffs
TSM is now more focused and aggressive in terms of improvement. Treatz stated that not making Worlds is not acceptable for the organization, and the loss to Golden Guardians served as a wake-up call.
Confidence in Teammates
Treatz still remains confident in his and his teammates’ ability to perform when it matters. Playing on this roster has been incredibly rewarding, especially working alongside superstar marksman Doublelift.
Challenges Faced by LCS Players
Treatz highlighted the struggles that many budding LCS players must face in order to make a team. He believes North American organizations are hesitant to try rookies, unlike their European counterparts who have found success by fielding young talent.
