Riot postpones League of Legend’s Aurelion Sol rework

Riot Games Delays Aurelion Sol Update for League of Legends

Riot Games recently announced that Aurelion Sol, one of their newer champions, will receive a core gameplay update. The update aims to address the champion’s outdated mechanics and bring him up to speed with other champions like Akshan and Nilah on the Rift.

Originally, the update was scheduled to be released in the final months of 2022. However, Riot has decided to delay Aurelion Sol’s update. SkinSpotlights, known for sharing upcoming skin spotlights, revealed a comment from Riot KingCobra on the Aurelion Sol mains Discord. According to KingCobra, the update will now be released early next year, as Riot wants to further polish Aurelion Sol’s gameplay before making it live.

Reasons for the Delay

Riot Games’ decision to delay the update is driven by their desire to ensure the best possible gameplay experience for Aurelion Sol players. By taking additional time to refine the champion, Riot aims to deliver an improved and updated version of Aurelion Sol.

What to Expect in the Update

In the original Champion Roadmap, Riot revealed their focus on giving Aurelion Sol a “unique scaling fantasy,” emphasizing his status as the strongest being in the Runeterra universe. Additionally, Riot shared details about two spells that will be featured in Sol’s 2.0 kit.

One of the changes includes Sol’s Q ability, which will now fire a starfire-imbued ray that gradually deals damage, functioning similarly to Vel’Koz’s Life Form Disintegration Ray. Furthermore, Sol’s new W ability will function similarly to the old Celestial Expansion, but with the added flexibility of not requiring him to move in a straight line.

The Wait Will Be Worthwhile

Although the wait for the new and improved Aurelion Sol may be longer than expected, it is bound to be worthwhile. Players can look forward to experiencing a champion who has been refined and optimized to deliver the best possible gameplay in Summoner’s Rift.
