Kwangdong Freecs’ Head Coach Plans to Keep Key Player for 2023 LCK Season

Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho Aims to Elevate Kwangdong Freecs

Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, the new head coach of Kwangdong Freecs, is determined to raise his team’s standards this year.

Interview with Inven Global

In an interview with Inven Global, cvMax shared his thoughts on his one-year break from esports, his new team, and his plans for the upcoming season.

Improving the Team’s Performance

According to cvMax, the team’s individual skill is fine, but their results have been underwhelming. He believes that he can elevate the team’s overall level and maximize their potential.

Contracts Expiring

All the players’ contracts are expiring this year, so cvMax is eagerly waiting to see who the organization will sign for the upcoming season.

Roster Retention

When asked which player he would like to keep from the 2022 roster, cvMax mentioned that he firmly wants to retain top laner Kiin, whom he regards as the “ideal six-tool player.”

Creating a Balanced Team

cvMax’s goal is to build a team where any of the five players can carry. He wants the share of tasks among all players to be even, without one player overshadowing others.

The Role of the Jungler

Although the jungler is usually the strongest voice within a team, cvMax aims to create a natural playing environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves and leading the team based on the game state.

A Break and a Change

cvMax initially took a break from coaching but eventually felt unproductive. To better himself, he started hiking and appreciates meaningful lives, contrasting his own choices.

Ambitious Goals

Despite not knowing the roster, cvMax has already prepared multiple plans. His primary goal for 2023 is to achieve strong results and qualify for the World Championship. He also aims to regain the trust and interest of fans.

A Coaching Journey

cvMax began his coaching career in 2017 with Griffin, leading them from Korea’s second division to becoming LCK Champions. The team produced star players like Chovy, Viper, Tarzan, and Lehends. However, cvMax faced suspension in 2019 due to violent behavior.

After a challenging stint with DRX in 2021, cvMax took a year-long break.
