Dota 2 enthusiasts urge Valve to boost game promotion post recent Riot updates

Dota 2 Fans Call for Increased Marketing Efforts from Valve

Dota 2’s player base wants Valve to step up its marketing game following Riot Games’ 10-year anniversary celebration for League of Legends.

Riot unveiled various exciting new projects, including a League champion, a digital card game called Legends of Runeterra, and a mobile and console version of League, called Wild Rift. This has left Dota 2 fans craving for more from Valve.

While matchmaking updates can solve certain issues, such as long queue times for high MMR players, it can also create new problems and lead professional players like Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao to create smurf accounts. Due to the lack of new players, Dota 2 is facing a shortage of competition at the highest level, resulting in more challenges.

Frustrated fans took to Reddit and Twitter to discuss how Valve should utilize the over $90 million earned through The International 2019 Battle Pass. One Reddit user suggested that Valve should invest in advertising to attract new players, which would enhance match quality and increase the TI prize pool.

However, the success of the game is not solely dependent on marketing. The outdated tutorial and lack of a new player experience can turn new players away from Dota 2 after a few defeats.

While Valve has promised a new player experience update, progress has been slow. Fixing matchmaking is important, but it’s equally crucial for Valve to invest in advertising beyond occasional YouTube ads and organic banners in the Steam client to attract new players.

The Dota Pro Circuit will resume on November 7, presenting an opportune moment for Valve to launch a new ad campaign or release the new player experience update.
