CLG releases LCS coaches SSONG and Weldon following underwhelming 2020 season

Counter Logic Gaming Begins Rebuilding Process for League of Legends Team

Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) has taken steps towards revamping its League of Legends team after a disappointing split. Head coach Kim “SSONG” Sang-soo and coach Weldon Green have been let go.

In recent years, CLG has faced numerous challenges. While they showed promise in the 2019 LCS Summer Split by finishing third, they were ultimately knocked out of the playoffs by Clutch Gaming. This was still an improvement compared to their poor performance in the previous splits.

When 2020 came around, CLG made changes to their roster, bringing in familiar talents like Lee “Crown” Min-ho and Andy “Smoothie” Ta. They also acquired head coach SSONG to guide the team. Unfortunately, these moves did not yield the desired results, and CLG finished the Spring Split in last place with a 3-15 record.

The summer split was equally disappointing for CLG. They reintegrated veteran mid laner Eugene “Pobelter” Park in an attempt to restore stability to the lineup, but even his efforts were not enough to lead the team to success. With a final tiebreaker loss to Team Dignitas, CLG failed to secure a playoff spot, finishing with a 5-13 record.

Despite the challenges, there are some positives to take from this difficult season. Pobelter showed promise as the starting mid laner, performing well considering the circumstances. Additionally, there are several players on the team who have the potential to improve with better guidance.

The Road to Recovery

Although the season may be over, CLG’s work has just begun. The organization is now focused on rebuilding and regaining their competitive edge.
