EDG Continues Impressive Run at Worlds, Eliminates Fnatic & Aids T1 in Quarterfinals Journey

EDward Gaming Continues Dominance at League of Legends Worlds 2022, Defeating Fnatic

EDward Gaming (EDG) showcased their superior skills once again at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, eliminating Fnatic from the tournament. This comes right after their decisive victory against Cloud9.

EDG’s support player Meiko, playing as Thresh, played a crucial role in dragging Fnatic around the map. Meanwhile, their top laner Flandre, using Fiora, demolished towers and suffocated the opposition.

Similar to T1, EDG has secured a spot in the quarterfinals after dominating Group A. Their performance in this tournament has been extremely impressive.

At the 14-minute mark, Fnatic found some hope despite EDG’s five kills against their one. This hope stemmed from the fact that three of EDG’s kills were on Jiejie’s Sejuani, a champion that doesn’t require significant resources to be effective. Additionally, Fnatic’s laners, including Wunder on his signature Gragas counter pick, were keeping up with farm.

However, everything started to go downhill for Fnatic from that point onward. EDG had better setups around objectives and effectively shut down Upset’s Aphelios and Humanoid’s Viktor, securing victory before fights even began.

While Cloud9 managed to secure a spot in the group stage as “Pool 1” status, avoiding the toughest opponents, Fnatic wasn’t as fortunate. They had to face off against T1 and EDward Gaming, the reigning world champions, and LPL third seed. The difference in skill level was evident, and it ultimately led to Fnatic’s elimination.

Despite a strong start in the tournament, Fnatic’s slide down the rankings began after their defeat by Cloud9. This loss marks their fourth consecutive defeat and the end of their Worlds journey.

Fnatic finished with a 2-4 record in the groups, falling short for the second year in a row after their previous successes. On the other hand, EDward Gaming will face T1 in Group A’s deciding match at 7pm CT.
