Fly, former Gen.G player, transitions to Afreeca Freecs as their new mid laner

Afreeca Freecs Signs Mid Laner Fly Following Departure from Gen.G

Korean League of Legends team Afreeca Freecs has announced the signing of mid laner Song “Fly” Yong-jun. Fly recently left Gen.G after a lackluster 2019 LCK season. The organization has made significant changes to its roster, retaining only its bot lane consisting of Park “Ruler” Jae-Hyuk and Kim “Life” Jeong-Min.

Shaky Start and Summer Rebound

Afreeca Freecs experienced a rough start to the season with inconsistent performances during the LCK Spring Split. However, they managed to bounce back during the Summer Split after restructuring their strategy. They finished the 2019 season in fifth place but missed out on qualifying for Worlds by losing their first Regional Finals match against DragonX.

Fly’s Potential Role

Joining Afreeca Freecs, Fly has the opportunity to take over the starting mid lane position from Son “Ucal” Woo-Hyeon, who has yet to announce his plans for 2020. Fly has competed in multiple regions throughout his career, including stints in China’s LPL with Invictus Gaming and in the LCS with Gold Coin United and FlyQuest in the U.S. However, his most successful year was in 2016 when he reached the LCK playoffs with KT Rolster in both splits.

Expectations and Future Changes

This fresh start in 2020 presents Fly with the chance to showcase his creative playstyle and prove that he still possesses the potential to reach the top of the South Korean League scene. Additionally, Afreeca Freecs is expected to make further changes to its roster as two positions remain open following the departures of Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram and Son “Jelly” Ho-kyeong.
