Almost Making it Possible: Watching League of Legends Games with Microsoft’s HoloLens

Virtual Reality League of Legends Clash Not Possible, Microsoft Says

Microsoft recently asked the community to pitch ideas for their HoloLens experiences, and the idea of a League of Legends match viewer gained the most votes. This viewer would allow users to see the entire map and zoom in on specific lanes or follow the action. However, Microsoft’s HoloLens team stated that it would not be possible to create this experience due to existing intellectual property. So, for now, virtual reality League of Legends games are not in the cards, unless Riot decides to take on the challenge.

The HoloLens Pitch

At the beginning of December, Microsoft launched their “Share Your Idea” campaign, inviting the community to pitch their ideas for HoloLens experiences. The most popular idea was a League of Legends match viewer, which would allow users to watch the game in real-time and see the entire map. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s HoloLens team stated that they cannot create a project based on existing intellectual property.

The HoloLens is an augmented reality headset that enhances everyday experiences and games like Minecraft. However, a virtual reality League of Legends experience is not currently feasible.

No Virtual Reality League of Legends for Now

While the idea of watching League of Legends games in virtual reality is exciting, it seems it will not become a reality any time soon. Microsoft’s HoloLens team cannot create a project based on existing intellectual property. However, it remains to be seen if Riot will take on the challenge and make virtual reality League of Legends a possibility.
