Dota 2 to be included as a medal event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Dota 2 to Feature at 2019 SEA Games

Dota 2 continues to grow in Southeast Asia as the game will make its debut at the 2019 SEA Games, where esports will be a medal event. The tournament will be held at the FilOil Flying V Sports Arena in San Juan, and the esports category has expanded this year to become a full event, after being added as a demonstration last year.

Dota 2 is one of several games being added to the roster, which is a positive sign for the pro scene in Southeast Asia, especially the Philippines, where teams like Mineski, Fnatic, and TNC Predator have been performing well. The full lineup at the SEA Games will include Dota 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Tekken 7.

Splitting the Games

The new esports category will divide the games into three sections based on the platforms they are played on. Dota 2 and StarCraft II will fall under PC, while Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will fall under the Mobile category. Tekken 7 is the only game that will fall under the Console category, making it the only fighting game at the event.

Invited Training Roster

The list of players invited to the training roster for the Dota competition at the SEA Games includes Carlo “Kuku” Palad, Timothy John “Tims” Randrup, Kim “Gabbi” Santos, Armel “Armel” Tabios, Nico “Eyyou” Barcelon, Djardel Jicko B. “DJ” Mampusti, Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto, Abed Azel “Abed” Yusop, Michael “ninjaboogie” Ross Jr., and Ryan Jay “Bimbo” Qui. These players represent the growth of esports in various cultures around the world.

However, there may be some conflicts with attending the training camps due to the lack of a schedule for the upcoming Dota Pro Circuit season. The SEA Games esports will take place from Dec. 1 to 6, which is usually right after the first Major of the DPC year. While this won’t directly conflict with the event, it may be difficult to align training schedules with players who are already committed to competitive organizations.
