Mikyx Joins Excel Esports After Leaving G2 Esports

Mikyx has officially left G2 Esports and will join Excel Esports pending approval by Riot Games, according to announcements from both organizations.

The 23-year-old support player, Mikyx, was an integral part of G2 for over three years. He joined the team in 2018, already establishing himself as one of the most promising support players in Europe after competing at Worlds 2016 with Splyce.

Despite his early success, Mikyx’s biggest achievements came under the G2 banner. He won the LEC trophy four times with the team and had a standout year in 2019, triumphing at MSI and reaching the finals of Worlds.

However, after a disappointing 2021 season, G2 made the decision to overhaul their roster, leaving Mikyx on the bench.

Advienne’s Reaction to the Roster Change

Mikyx will be stepping into the support role for Excel, replacing Advienne. In response to the announcement, Advienne expressed his disappointment: “This decision was taken by the management only, without any open dialogue with my (now ex) teammates or any heads up to me prior to the decision already being made… During the offseason Excel made clear that the roster for 2022 was going to be rebuilt around Mark [Markoon] and I.”

Tough Times for Excel Esports

Excel has had a rough start to the 2022 LEC Spring Split. Currently sitting in sixth place with a 2-3 record, the team faces tough opponents like MAD Lions, Rogue, and Fnatic in the coming weeks.
