Everything you need to know about the upcoming Sentinel of Light and temperamental yordle champion releases in League of Legends

League of Legends Teases New Champions Connected to the Ruined King

Earlier this year, Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, the lead champion producer of League of Legends, hinted at the release of three new champions tied to the story of Viego, the Ruined King. The first of these champions, Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress, was recently introduced in Patch 11.8 and is now available on the live servers. However, information about the other two champions has remained scarce.

Leaked Details About the Upcoming Champions

An article on the official League of Legends China website provided some insight into the two upcoming champions for this year. Although the post has been deleted, a translation shared on Reddit revealed important details from the roadmap. In addition to the new champions, the article also mentioned reworks for Dr. Mundo and Udyr.

The Arrival of the Sentinel of Light

The first champion scheduled to join League of Legends in 2021 is part of the Sentinel of Light group. These Sentinels play a crucial role in the game’s lore as an ancient order of hunters hailing from the Blessed Isles. They defend Runeterra from the undead spirits that emerge from the Shadow Isles’ Black Mist, including characters like Kalista, Hecarim, and Thresh. Lucian and Senna, whose official character biographies confirm their status as Sentinels, use pistols as their main weapons. The third unnamed sentinel, who will also join the champion roster, is said to be a “mid lane marksman.” This marksman will be the first exclusively designed for the mid lane role in League of Legends and will serve a unique purpose among the champions.

A New Yordle Champion

Originally intended to be the second champion released in 2021 after Gwen, a female yordle character’s development has been delayed. The delay aims to incorporate new technology to enhance the believability of her power sources. Additionally, her character identity will shift from an artillery mage to a traditional mage. This yordle champion will be the first of her kind since Kled, who was released in September 2016. Like Gwen, she will also play a role in Viego’s lore and contribute to the ongoing Ruination storyline introduced in the Viego cinematic.

No specific release dates were mentioned in the leaked article for these upcoming champions, but they are expected to join the game sometime in 2021.
