Little change seen in the LoL professional meta during the initial week of the 2023 LPL Summer Split

League of Legends Patch 13.10: Meta Analysis and Future Changes

The recent release of League of Legends Patch 13.10 brought significant changes to the game, particularly in terms of balancing different roles. The addition of new items has impacted the solo queue, but the professional play scene has remained relatively unchanged.

The LPL Summer Split, which is the first major region to start, has revealed that the meta has barely shifted from the dominance of the Spring Split and MSI. In fact, the changes to various items have made certain champions even more powerful, especially in coordinated play where their strengths are maximized.

In the LPL Summer Split’s first week, Aphelios and K’Sante have both achieved a 100% pick/ban rate. Milio, the latest champion to join the game, has also reached this rate, although he hasn’t been playable on stage until now. K’Sante can be flexed to multiple roles due to his tankiness and his strong one-vs-one potential after reaching his ultimate.

In comparison to other regions, Aphelios was not a consistently popular pick in the LPL Spring Split. However, the recent changes to marksman itemization have significantly boosted his early-game power, especially with the newly-buffed Stormrazor. This has given Aphelios more tools to snowball quickly and become a formidable ADC.

Vi, Zeri, Lulu, Ahri, and Neeko have also emerged as strong picks in the LPL Summer Split. Neeko received a recent update that makes her an even trickier opponent to face. Zeri and Lulu continue to dominate, especially with Zeri’s new build path with Trinity Force. Additionally, the popular duo of Zeri and Yuumi has returned with Yuumi once again being enabled in pro play.

Patch 13.11, which launched recently, will likely become the primary patch for the LPL next week. It is worth noting that none of the aforementioned champions have been nerfed in this patch. However, if other regions show similar gameplay trends, it is highly likely that these champions may receive changes in the near future.

Currently, the LPL is the only major region playing its Summer Season, while the LEC and LCK are expected to begin next week. Riot has delayed the start of the LCS by two weeks due to controversies surrounding the North American Challengers League (NACL), with the possibility of complete cancellation being considered.

In the upcoming weeks, it is highly likely that other major regions will also see the contested presence of champions like Zeri, Lulu, Aphelios, K’Sante, and Milio. The LPL will continue its first week of the 2023 Summer Split with three series featured on the broadcast.
