Upset and Hylissang approved to participate in Worlds 2022 play-in stage—yet, only one will compete tomorrow

Fnatic’s League of Legends Squad Receives Positive COVID-19 News Ahead of Worlds 2022 Play-in Stage

Fnatic’s League of Legends team received some good news today as they prepared for the play-in stage of Worlds 2022. Despite their bottom lane testing positive for COVID-19, AD carry Upset tested negative and will be able to participate in the games. Support Hylissang also tested negative but will miss one day of matches, according to the organization’s announcement.

Emergency Substitute Granted for Fnatic

Fnatic was given an emergency substitute on Sept. 26 when it became clear that Upset and Hylissang might not be able to play due to their positive COVID tests. Fnatic TQ, their affiliate in the Spanish LVP, provided their bottom lane players BEAN and Rhuckz as potential replacements. However, it seems that BEAN will not be participating in Worlds for the second consecutive year.

Despite qualifying for Worlds last year with Upset on the roster, this will be his first appearance on the international stage. Last year, he had to leave Reykjavík right before the tournament due to a personal matter, and BEAN filled in as the AD carry. If not for today’s news, BEAN would have played again this year.

Substitutes for Fnatic’s First Day of Games

On the support side, Rhuckz from Fnatic TQ will be substituting for Hylissang for the team’s first day of games. This includes a match against Evil Geniuses, who are also using a substitute AD carry, at 4pm CT, as well as a game against Oceania’s Chiefs Esports Club at 7pm CT. Fnatic hopes to have Hylissang back for their third play-in group stage match against Japan’s DetonatioN FocusMe on Sept. 30 at 3pm CT.
