Unicorns of Love and EnVyUs make it through the opening day of regional qualifier gauntlets

Two Teams Advance in League of Legends Regional Qualifying Gauntlet

Two teams have made a significant step towards securing a spot in the League of Legends World Championships as they emerged victorious in the first stage of the regional qualifying gauntlet.

In the EU LCS, fan favorites Unicorns of Love dominated Giants Gaming in an impressive three-game sweep. Unicorns’ midlaner Fabian “Exileh” Schubert had a standout performance, securing the most kills throughout the series. On the other hand, Giants’ Na “NighT” Gun-woo, who was recognized as the “outstanding rookie” of the Summer Split, struggled and failed to showcase his expected abilities as a South Korean midlaner.

With this commanding victory, the Unicorns of Love will now face off against Fnatic in the next stage of the European regionals.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, EnVyUs easily defeated Team Liquid in another three-game series. Although the first game seemed to be in favor of Team Liquid, EnVyUs managed to stall the game and allow their toplane Kassadin, Shin “Seraph” Woo-yeong, to reach a critical mass. With a series of decisive teamfight victories, EnVyUs overcame an 8000 gold deficit. Despite the loss, Team Liquid’s new jungler Lyonel “Arcsecond” Pfaender showed great promise in the early game, indicating a bright future for the 22-year-old player. However, the remaining games showed a lackluster performance from Team Liquid, leading to their elimination from the 2016 League of Legends World Championship chances.

Tomorrow’s regional qualifier broadcast will begin with Unicorns of Love facing Fnatic, followed by EnVyUs taking on Cloud9.
