FunPlus Phoenix Defeats Guild Esports in Masters Copenhagen
In a thrilling showdown, FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) emerged victorious against Guild Esports in Masters Copenhagen with the help of their newest team member Dmitry “SUYGETSU” Ilyushin.
SUYGETSU faced initial challenges, as he was unable to join FPX during the group stage and opening playoff match of Masters due to visa and flight delays. However, upon his return to the roster, FPX regained their form from the Challengers 2 stage. The series began with Ascent as the opening map, where FPX put up a strong fight against Guild. Although Guild managed to pressure FPX by winning multiple rounds in the second half, FPX narrowly secured a 13-11 victory, avoiding overtime. SUYGETSU showcased his exceptional skills as Sage, finishing the map with a 39% headshot percentage and an impressive 1.23 KD.
However, FPX’s confidence from their victory on Ascent quickly faded as Guild dominated the first half of their map pick, Breeze. With an astounding 12-0 lead, Guild denied FPX a 13-0 victory but FPX managed to crawl back and win three rounds before losing 13-3, leading to a tiebreaker on the third map. Saif “Sayf” Jibraeel delivered an outstanding performance as Jett with a 3.0 KD and an average combat score of over 350, leading his team to victory.
Without losing composure after the 13-3 defeat on Breeze, FPX dominated Guild in the third map, Bind, by winning the first five rounds. Despite a few minor mistakes, FPX maintained their lead and closed out Bind with a 13-4 victory, securing the series win with a score of 2-1.
