Fnatic VALORANT Team Discusses Their EMEA Playoffs Grand Finals Loss
The Fnatic VALORANT team recently held an ask-me-anything session on their team app, shedding light on what happened leading up to their loss against Team Liquid in the EMEA playoffs grand finals back in May.
A Reddit screenshot posted by user u/vnNinja21 shows a conversation between fan @kallenph and Fnatic’s in-game leader Jake “Boaster” Howlett regarding the team’s stress leading up to the grand finals match against Liquid.
Stress Before the Grand Finals
“@KingBoaster in the Youtube video when you lost to Liquid during the EMEA Grandfinals, can you elaborate on what was stressing the team out?” asked kallenph. “Like, what happened the day before the match (someone, i think it was Leo, that pointed it out)?”
“We made a few mistakes leading up to the finals,” Boaster explained. “Because we were so tired of Berlin and just wanted to go home, the day before the finals we decided to only vod review and not play. In the vod review, we were quite negative with our mistakes and I think it bled through to the next day affecting confidence. I’d say during the games we weren’t very stressed. We were just not playing like ourselves. It’s the first game where after a loss I was able to sleep like a baby. I think that sums it up a little?”
Tired and Emotional
In Fnatic’s “Clutch or Kick Episode 3,” a documentary following their journey to the VCT EMEA grand finals against Liquid, Boaster mentioned that the team was exhausted and emotional after their intense victory to reach the upper bracket final.
Boaster hoped that the team would settle down before the grand finals, but it appears that they weren’t as successful as he had hoped. However, he also believed that the loss would help them bounce back in the Masters Tokyo competition. And indeed, they ended up winning their second trophy of the year at the event.
