G2 Esports Dominates LEC Season Finals with a Kill-Filled Victory over Fnatic
G2 Esports emerged victorious in the LEC season finals against Fnatic, delivering one of the most action-packed series in recent professional League of Legends history. Across their 3-1 series triumph, G2 showcased their aggressive playstyle by averaging more than one kill per minute in each of the three games they won.
Game one witnessed G2 racking up 27 kills in just 27 minutes. They followed it up in the second game with 26 kills in a 25-minute match. Despite losing game three, G2 bounced back in game four, clinching victory with 24 kills in a 23-minute nail-biter.
Mid laner Caps and AD carry Hans Sama led the charge for G2, accumulating 30 and 27 kills, respectively. Meanwhile, jungler Yike and support Mikyx surpassed the 50-assist mark during the match.
G2’s astounding performance against Fnatic is reflective of their overall performance throughout the summer split. Over the course of the split, G2 averaged 18.9 kills per game, the highest among all teams in League of Legends’ four major regions, according to the statistics provided by Games of Legends.
Notably, three out of the top five teams in kills per game this summer were from the West, with Golden Guardians and NRG achieving 15.3 kills per game. This trend goes against the typical perception that Western teams engage in less bloody matches compared to their Eastern counterparts, especially Chinese teams. In last year’s Summer Split, four out of the top five teams in kills per game were from China or Korea, with G2 as the sole exception.
Moreover, G2 stands out as one of only 11 major region teams this summer to maintain an average game time under 30 minutes, all while achieving an impressive record of 27-6 in games since the start of the Summer Split on June 17.
As G2 gears up for the final tournament of the season, they have established themselves as one of the strongest teams worldwide. To find success on the international stage, they must maintain the same level of intensity that carried them to another LEC title.
G2 will kickstart their journey towards the Summoner’s Cup as the Worlds Swiss stage commences on October 19. The tournament itself begins with the Worlds Qualifying Series on October 9.
